Medication Dispensing Requirements

If your child is prescribed ANY medication that may need to be given during school hours such as, an Inhaler, EpiPens, ADHD medications, Benadryl, lactaid pills, special lotions or any antibiotics, their physician must write an order.  This also applies to over-the-counter (OTC) medications or supplements.  School nurses cannot administer prescribed medications, OTC supplements or creams without a physician’s order so please discuss at their annual well visit or sick visit.  Physicians need to complete a “Medication Dispensing Form” or they can use their own electronic forms, as long as it states the school nurse can administer during school hours and has a doctor's signature.

Students with Food allergies and Asthma will also be required to have their doctor complete an Allergy Action Plan or Asthma Action Plan from the physicianPlease drop off all medications to be kept at school to the nurse office or if your student will be self carrying and self administering their medications that needs to be clearly stated on their medication dispensing form that their physician signed.

BASIC FIRST AID:

School nurses have standing orders from the Central Bucks School District physician to treat with basic first aid during school hours.  This includes Neosporin, first aid burn cream, A&D ointment/lotion (chapped lips/skin), Caladryl or Benadryl gel (itchy skin/bug bites), visine eye drops, eye wash, antacids, cough drops & anbesol for sore teeth/gums.

Parents can give permission by selecting “YES or NO” in their child’s medical information in ParentsWeb for the school nurse to administer Tylenol or Motrin if needed for pain/headache during the school day, Tums if needed for heartburn or stomach aches during the school day, and Benadryl ONLY in the event of an allergic reaction.

Please go into ParentsWeb and update your student's health records and provide consent to treat your student. Also, please make sure to update any allergies or health concerns in ParentsWeb if any health changes occur during the school year!
